Dr. Shang-Cheng Hung has been honored as the recipient of the 2023 Taiwan Bio-Development Foundation (TBF) Chair in Biotechnology. These chairs have been established by the TBF to highlight the significance of awardees in Taiwan's biotech sector, thereby enhancing Taiwan's standing in biomedical research and the biotech industry. This contribution extends to both research and industrial development, ultimately benefiting public health in Taiwan. It also plays a role in nurturing local talent and maintaining investments in research and industry growth.
Dr. Hung has dedicated himself to the field of glycomedicine for an extended period. His team has developed innovative methods for preparing a diverse library of complex cell surface glycans. They apply molecular biology techniques to obtain disease-related proteins, allowing them to detect the binding affinities between glycans and proteins. This research sheds light on the structure-activity relationship (SAR), providing crucial molecular insights for disease diagnosis, prevention, and the development of small molecule drugs.
