Kuoi_Lin_2Congratulations to Dr. Kuo-I Lin for receiving the first annual ASAIHL-Scopus Young Scientist Award in the Life Science category. Lin’s research emphasizes on gene regulatory events in the immune system with in-depth study on plasma cell differentiation and neoplastic transformation of plasma cells. She was also the 2005 Li Foundation Heritage Prize winner.

The ASAIHL - Scopus Young Scientist Awards are given annually to outstanding young scientists and researchers in Asia-Pacific who have made significant contributions to scholarship and research. These awards are given in the following four categories: Agricultural Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Medicine, Life Sciences.

This award is designed to recognize outstanding young scientists and researchers in the Asia-Pacific region who have made significant contributions to scholarship and research. Insight from Scopus, Elsevier’s abstract and citation database of peer reviewed literature, was used to determine the winners.

According to the award website, one hundred and eighty four scientists and researchers under the age of 40 from Southeast Asia, South Asia and Hong Kong submitted their work in this award selection process this year. The top five young scientists in each category received a certificate of recognition with the winner given a monetary gift as well as a trip to the official award ceremony at the Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang on December 13, 2008.
