Wang Ming-Ning Memorial Foundation has granted the 27th Wang Ming-Ning Award to Director Shang-Cheng Hung of Genomics Research Center of Academia Sinica. This award is issued once per year to recognize a scientist with academic achievements that contributes to medical technology development as well as National health.
Dr. Hung has been studying one-pot carbohydrate synthesis for a long time. His lab has successfully created a glycan library with compounds mostly found on membrane surfaces with complex structures. These compounds can be used to block the herpes virus, influenza infections, as well as anti-tuberculosis…etc. Besides innovated glycol-synthesis, he’s made significant contribution in new drug development as well, such achievements are well known worldwide, and was reported by C&EN.
His achievement lately involves a simplified process to Make the Anticoagulant Drug Fondaparinux, their innovated approach can help the pharmaceutical industry make better anti blood clotting drug in a much lower cost. The result shall benefit not only the industry, but also all patients in need.
